Buczkowski and Ataman top PHS honors list

Posen Consolidated Schools superintendent/principal John Palmer announced that Amy Buczkowski and Erica Ataman are this year’s valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively. They top a list of 14 honor students from the Class of 2015.

Amy ranked number one in the class with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.94 and will attend Alma College next fall to pursue a finance degree. Erica ranked second with a GPA of 3.92 and will attend Baker College in Flint to major is prosthetics and orthotics design and fabrication.

The duo will lead the class during commencement exercises, June 5.

Amy Elizabeth Buczkowski is the daughter of Terry and Laurie Buczkowski. She is a member of the National Honor Society (NHS) and is involved with Upward Bound, pep club, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), trip club and Trio Talent Search (TTS). She participated in volleyball, basketball and was a statistician for football. The senior is gearing up for her final season of softball. She also was involved with her church youth group.

Amy received the presidential award for academic excellence and the physical education excellence award. She also has perfect attendance. Amy took second in the Brush Creek Mill writing contest. At the 2014 Miss Posen Pageant last August, she was first runner-up and won the talent and poise and appearance award.

She was an all-region and all-district player softball in 2014, and was named all-conference first-team.

Erica Rose Ataman is the daughter of John and Lisa Ataman. She organized the “spike out cancer” volleyball games in 2013 and 2014 and was a member of the 2011 Presque Isle County Fair queen’s court and 2014 Miss Posen queen’s court.

as been involved in the NHS, Upward Bound, SADD, trip club, pep club, TTS, volleyball and the Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council (NEMYAC). She participated in track, volleyball (freshman, sophomore) and was manager/statistician her junior and senior years.

She volunteered at the Presque Isle County Council on Aging benefit dinners, other benefits and for productions at the Rogers City Theater. Additionally, she was chosen as a “Shoestrings” author in elementary and has a natural artistic ability, and draws as a hobby.

Erica has received the board of regents scholarship from Baker College.
