Onaway High names top graduating students for Class of 2015

Onaway Area Community Schools and Onaway High School (OHS) are proud to announce the valedictorians, salutatorian and honor graduates for the Class of 2015.

Co-Valedictorians Ashley LaLonde and Ellexis Szymoniak lead the way with 4.0 grade point averages (GPAs). Brianna Fitzpatrick is the salutatorian and Shyanne Corey is the honor student.

Ashley LaLonde (4.0 GPA) is the daughter of Dan and Sara Lalonde. She has played four years of volleyball and four years of softball for the Cardinals. She was on the homecoming court in both her freshman and senior years and was fall homecoming queen as a senior.

She was a member of the knowledge bowl team as a junior and the student council as a senior. During her junior and senior years LaLonde was a member of the orange team.

LaLonde is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Ocqueoc and has been employed at Dairy Queen for three years.

After graduation LaLonde plans to attend North Central Michigan College (NCMC) to get her associate degree before transferring to a four-year university.

Ellexis Szymoniak (4.0) is the daughter of Scot and Elizabeth Szymoniak. She has played four years of volleyball, basketball and softball for the Cardinals and earned numerous athletic awards, most recently all-state first-team in basketbal

She has been a member of the National Honor Society (NHS) since her junior year and the orange team since her sophomore year.

Szymoniak was on the homecoming court as a freshman and again as a senior when she was the winter homecoming queen. She is a class officer and a member of the student council this year. She participated in knowledge bowl during her junior and senior years.

She is a member of Joy Community Church and is employed at Porter’s Survey. She participated in the Northern Michigan Volleyball Club for four years and was a part of Northern Force Volleyball Club for one year.

Szymoniak plans to attend Lawrence Technological University in the fall to study architecture. She will also continue her volleyball career at Lawrence Tech.
