Jim’s younger brother, Tony, was a Michigan senator from 2003 to 2010. Jim won election to the Senate last November and it may take a little while for constituents to get used to. The facial hair he is sporting also may take a while to get use to.

Both grew up working in the family business, Pizza Sam’s in downtown Midland. “Growing up, Mom and Dad always said, the community has taken care of us by coming in (to the business), so find a way to give back to the community.” The business has been family owned for 50 years.

Jim started as a township trustee and worked his way up the political ladder. Being the owner and general manager of the business, he knows what it takes for small business owners to be successful.

Jim, who is serving his fourth month as senator, was in Presque Isle County April 2 meeting with local leaders during a tour of the county last week.  More on Senator Stamas’ visit is in this week’s Advance.
