Memorial Day weekend happenings

Memorial Day weekend activities mark the unofficial start of summer.
Across Presque Isle County, there will be a myriad of events going on through the long holiday weekend.
Veterans will mark Memorial Day observances. In Posen, members of Post 7804 will have their annual church service at 9 a.m. with a procession through the St. Casimir Catholic Church cemetery where a service and gun salute will be conducted.
In Rogers City, Post 607 will have a parade along Third Street to the war monuments at the Presque Isle County Courthouse. There will be a service, gun salute, as well as acknowledgement of the work that went into the refurbishment project over the winter. The procession will continue to Memorial Park Cemetery before concluding.
Millersburg conducts a service at Riverside Cemetery along Walker Highway at 11 a.m., while members of Onaway Post 5857 of Onaway have a service in front of the war memorial in the front corner of the courthouse lawn at the same time.
Saturday, there will be a grand opening, open house for the Range Light Park improvements in Presque Isle Township. There is a new pavilion and boardwalk. It will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Spring Fling in Hawks gets hopping Saturday with the softball tournament. On Sunday there will be a barbecue chicken dinner at the Night Hawk Inn, a parade at 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service at Hawks Memorial Park.
Festivities for the 4th
The Rogers City Area Seniors & Community Center will be hosting the Classic-Kruzers Truck and Auto Show from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The 11th annual “Afternoon of Arts and Crafts” show will be conducted at Presque Isle County’s Lighthouse Park Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additionally, 40-Mile point Lighthouse will have its annual open house.
Sunday, Onaway High School graduation has their commencement exercise at 2 p.m.
