Track teams gear up for regionals

The high school track season is winding down across the state. It is no different for the Onaway, Posen and Rogers City track teams. Each team had a busy week with at least two contests as just over a week remains in the regular season. Regionals for all three schools will be Saturday, May 16 at Alcona High School.

The Onaway Cardinals’ track team was at Johannesburg-Lewiston Monday where the boys’ team finished fourth and the girls’ team was sixth.

Senior Joe Traynham was second in the mile at 4:57.24 and second in the two mile at 10:51.01. The 1,600-meter relay team of junior Morgan McLean, senior Pat Dunn, sophomore Cameron Horn and senior Elijah Shockley was second at 3:53.05.

The 800-relay team of senior Dalton Adkins, Shockley, junior Cortez Washington and junior Shane Wolgast finished second at 1:43.79.

Horn was third in the 110 hurdles at 18.62 and fourth in the 300 hurdles at 48.0. The 3,200-relay team of Traynham, McLean, sophomore Troy Klein and Dunn was third at 9:16.27.

Shane Wolgast was fourth in the 400 at 59.34. Senior

Cody Morell was fourth in the discus at 101’10” and Shockley was fourth in the long jump at 17’7”.

For the girls, sophomore Vydailya Letts was first in the 400 at 1:09.93 and third in the high jump at 4’6”.

The 800-relay team of senior Shelby Wolgast, sophomore Clare Bastian, freshman Sammy Pasella and senior Elise Arkwood was second at 2:02.69.

Sophomore Emma Winfield was third in the 300 hurdles at 54.93. Bastian was fourth in the 100 at 14.05 while Arkwood was forth in the 300 hurdles at 55.57. The 1,600-relay team of Winfield, Arkwood, Letts and Pasella was fourth at 4:48.17.

Last Thursday the Cardinals traveled to Inland Lakes for a meet. Horn was third in the 110 hurdles at 18.18. Letts was third in both the high jump (4’8”) and long jump (14’6”).
