Current owners James and Kathy (Rygwelski) Romel, who have owned the world-renowned shop for 11 years, are not taking credit for the first 90, but have fully embraced the milestone with a planned open house, Aug. 9, to commemorate the historic occasion. It will be from 4 to 7 p.m. after the Nautical Festival parade with Rygwelski’s hot dogs, chips and soda. There also will be a drawing during the open house with 10 winners of $100 gift certificates.

“We are not responsible for this being here 100 years,” said James. “We took it over. All those that did this befor

e us, deserve the credit.”

The Romel family has been working on a float for the parade with old photos of family members, blown up so parade goers can see them.

Festival time is one of their busiest of the year, and the family wanted to celebrate the moment when the most people are visiting Rogers City, because the business would not be where it is without its valued customers.

“Without them, we would not be here,” said James. One of the busiest days during festival time is the Monday after the final day because people are leaving town and want to take home some of the quality products.
